One of the highlights of this town is the Myanmar Union Adventist Seminary, a private Christian college nestled in a serene 56.00-acre estate on Mosokwin Road. This esteemed institution is the only tertiary education institution serving Myanmar Union Mission and is part of the world's second-largest Christian school system, the Seventh-day Adventist education system. Myaungmya is not only known for its educational institutions but also for its notable figures who have called this place home. U Nu, the first premier of independent Burma, and Daw Khin Kyi, the wife of national leader General Aung San, were both born here. In addition, Myaungmya played a significant role in anti-colonial nationalistic education, with U Nu himself serving as a district education officer. George Orwell, the famous writer, also had ties to Myaungmya, as he served as an assistant superintendent of police here in 1924. The name Myaungmya has its roots in the Mon language name Mongpale and has a fascinating history. The town was originally the ancestral homeland of the Mon Nya, a subgroup of the Mon People. It was formed in 1893 and reconstituted in 1903, emerging as a bustling hub in the Bassein district. With a total population of 298,716, Myaungmya has a thriving community and offers various amenities. The town boasts 11 banks, including the public Myanmar Economic Bank, as well as ten private banks.
