Taxis and buses run from Islamabad and usually take about 1.30 hour to reach Murree. There are four routes to Murree from the capital city: 1. The old Islamabad-Murree Road - This route takes 1.30 hour but offers a scenic drive with breathtaking views. 2. The 4-lane Islamabad-Murree Expressway - This route takes 1 hour but be cautious as it has a bad reputation for accidents and speed checks by the police. 3. The longer route via Nilore and Simli Dam - This route joins at Lower Topa and provides an adventurous journey through mountainous terrain. The drive takes around 3 hours, but you'll want to make stops for stunning photo opportunities. 4. The most adventurous route starting from the Monal restaurant in Islamabad - This route leads to the 'old Murree Road' and requires a 4x4 vehicle due to unpaved sections and a riverbed crossing where a bridge has been washed away. Make sure to bring a printout of a Google map and a GPS. The drive is worth it for the thrill-seekers. The mountain drive to Murree offers refreshing experiences and breathtaking scenery, especially on the Nilore-Simli-Lower Topa route.
