Get in
Muang Ngoi, known for its idyllic landscapes and charming village atmosphere, is a hidden gem in Laos. Getting to Muang Ngoi is an adventure in itself. You can choose to take a 1-hour public boat from Nong Khiaw, with departures at 10:30 and 14:30, or from Muang Khua, with a departure at 09:30. Be sure to arrive at least 30 minutes early to secure your spot, as boarding can be a bit chaotic. The boat rides offer breathtaking views of the river and surrounding mountains, making it the obvious choice for transport. In April 2013, Muang Ngoi gained a small road connection. While it is possible to reach Muang Ngoi by road if you have your own vehicle, the scenic boat trip is still the preferred and most convenient option. The road journey from Nong Kiew takes approximately 2.5 hours, while the boat ride provides a more immersive and memorable experience. Rumor has it that a more direct road to Muang Ngoi is under construction and expected to be completed in 2015, which will greatly reduce driving time and provide even more accessibility to this stunning destination.
