Mount Washington is not your average mountain. Standing at an elevation of 6,288 feet (1916m), it is a force to be reckoned with. Its claim to fame? The Mount Washington Observatory, which is manned year-round. But that's not all - this mountain is also known for its extreme weather conditions. In fact, back in 1934, it set a record for the highest measured land-based windspeed - a mind-boggling 231 mph! The weather up there is no joke, resembling the harsh conditions of Siberia. Winter temperatures can drop as low as -47F (-44C)!
However, it's not all doom and gloom. The Mount Washington State Park is open from Mid May to Mid October, offering hikers a chance to experience the beauty of this majestic peak. But be warned - once the park closes, there are no shelters or facilities at the summit. Despite this, climbers and skiers can still venture forth on the trails, ready to conquer Mount Washington's challenges.
