Mt. Fuji, the majestic and perfectly symmetrical volcanic cone, is a legendary symbol of Japan. It has inspired countless works of art, including Hokusai's famous 36 Views of Mt. Fuji. When the Japanese refer to Mt. Fuji, they call it Fuji-san, but the -san in this case simply means "mountain" and has nothing to do with the honorific san used for people's names. It's important to note that "Fujiyama" is a misinterpretation of the name and is never used by the Japanese themselves, except in the set phrase Fujiyama geisha.
