Mosul, a city with a rich history and culture, was once deemed off-limits to the West due to the control of ISIS. In 2014, ISIS took over Mosul, imposing Sharia law and persecuting non-Sunni residents. Although the Iraqi army managed to recapture most of the city in 2017, some areas still remain in ruins. The danger of ISIS continues to loom, making Mosul a city with a lingering presence of fear and devastation.

Get in

At the moment, visiting Mosul is not recommended due to safety reasons. While areas in the autonomous Kurdistan Region of Iraq are deemed safe, Mosul is not included in that area. It is important to note that no flights currently arrive at Mosul International Airport (IATA: OSM).
