Get in
The Plateau is a vibrant neighborhood located just next to downtown. It is easily accessible through various routes, offering plenty of options to explore. You can take Avenue du Parc, Boulevard Saint-Laurent, Rue Saint-Denis, or Rue Papineau, which run north/south in the Plateau. These main streets are accompanied by numerous side streets that hide exciting surprises in between. To navigate east/west, you have Rue Sherbrooke, Avenue des Pins, Avenue Rachel, Avenue du Mont-Royal, and Boulevard Saint-Joseph. Among them, Mont Royal stands out, bustling with an array of shops, bars, and restaurants waiting to be discovered. Whether you choose to drive (remember that Saint-Laurent is one way, going north) or take a taxi, transportation is convenient in this area.
If you prefer public transportation, fear not! The STM operates bus routes along all the aforementioned streets and more. Moreover, you can conveniently access the Plateau via the Orange line of the Montreal Metro. This line runs beneath Rue Berri, adjacent to Rue Saint-Denis. Within the boundaries of the Plateau, you will find Sherbrooke, Mont-Royal, and Laurier metro stations, providing easy access to this lively neighborhood.
Cycling enthusiasts can also enjoy the Plateau, although the number of bike lanes is limited. There are separate bike lanes on Avenue Rachel, stretching from Parc Mont-Royal to Boulevard Lafontaine, and on Rue Brbeuf, connecting Parc Lafontaine to Parc Laurier. Additionally, you can find painted bike lanes along Rue Saint-Urbain, Rue Milton, Rue Prince-Arthur, and Rue Saint-Joseph. While these lanes exist, it is important to be cautious as they are not always respected by Montreal drivers. It's worth noting that some of these lanes are not plowed during the winter, so plan your cycling adventures accordingly.
