Even today, families like the Inguanez have inhabited this astounding place for over six centuries. Its grandeur extends to the presence of the Maltese bishop and the magnificent Mdina cathedral, still holding its esteemed position above the co-cathedral of St. John. Did you know that L'Mdina played a pivotal role during the Great Siege of 1565? The Turks directed their attack towards Birgu instead, as the Knights had chosen it as their new capital. However, Mdina was mere moments away from being seized when a local nun had a divine vision. A grand procession celebrating God filled the town's walls, creating an illusion of a strong defense to the Turkish army. They left Mdina untouched, forever grateful to that courageous nun. While knights and British rule gradually diminished L'Mdina's political importance, it transformed into the captivating "silent city." Nowadays, the town is experiencing a revival, with the restoration of palazzos once belonging to the elite.
