Marsala, a city situated on the western side of Sicily, holds a significant place as one of the three "vertices" of the island. It is also referred to as "Capo Boeo" or "Capo Lilibeo." With a current population of approximately 80,000 inhabitants, it has a rich history. Founded by the Carthaginians, it was initially named Lilybeo. During the First Punic War, it fell under Roman rule. Later, during the Arabic dominion, it acquired the name Marsala, likely derived from Marsa Allah, meaning "port of God." In 1860, Marsala gained further historical significance as Giuseppe Garibaldi, leading the "Expedition of the Thousand," landed here, marking the beginnings of Italy's unification. The city's primary patron is Maria Santissima of the Quarry of Marsala, adding to its cultural heritage.
