Get in
Welcome to Malakal, home to South Sudan's second international airport - Malakal Airport (IATA: MAK). You can reach us from Addis Ababa via Ethiopian Airlines [1] or from Khartoum with Sudan Airways [2]. If you're traveling domestically, there's also a route from Juba. However, be sure to make early reservations for the Juba flight, as it tends to book up quickly. Transportation along the White Nile is an exciting adventure! Hop aboard the barges that traverse up and down the river. There are boats available from Maloot that can take you on this scenic journey. Travel time may vary from six to 24 hours, offering plenty of time to soak in the beautiful surroundings. For those looking for a more adventurous option, consider securing passage on a motorboat from Juba. This thrilling journey will take you through remote areas, lasting approximately 6 days and nights. Be prepared with essentials such as a mosquito net, something comfortable to sleep on, bottled water, food, and medical supplies. While the roads in South Sudan are not the best, efforts are being made to repair and improve them. However, during the rainy season, all roads leading to Malakal become unusable for ordinary vehicles. Rest assured, though, progress is being made, especially toward the Ethiopian border. So get ready for an unforgettable trip!
