Luxor town is laid out in a straightforward manner, centered around the temples of Karnak and Luxor. Four main roads connect various parts of the city, with a network of smaller streets weaving between them. Among these roads are: - The Corniche el-Nil, which runs along the east bank of the Nile and provides access to most major attractions. - Sharia al-Mahatta, linking the railway station with the area around Luxor Temple. - Sharia Karnak, running parallel to the Nile and the Corniche. - Sharia Televizyon, located in the southern part of the town and offering affordable accommodation. In the center of Luxor, reconstruction work has been mostly completed. However, the town center is currently undergoing excavation to reveal the twin rows of sphinxes that once lined the processional route from Karnak to Luxor Temple. This extensive project has resulted in the demolition of several buildings, including hotels, churches, mosques, and private houses. Some of the unearthed sphinxes are in good condition, while others are being fitted into cement replicas. Major improvements have been made, including the widening of the main road along the corniche, allowing quicker access for coaches from Red Sea resorts to Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings.
