Get in
To reach Mvuu Camp and Lodge in Liwonde, you have a few options. A boat runs regularly from Liwonde town to the camp and lodge, offering a unique and scenic way to reach your destination. If you prefer driving, you can take a 14km drive on dirt roads from the village of Ulongwe, which is located about a third of the way between Liwonde and Mangochi. This will take you to the edge of the park, where you can leave your vehicle and take a boat across the river to Mvuu Camp and Lodge. Another option is driving in from the south. You can turn off the M3 just outside Liwonde town, heading east. This route is recommended if you are staying at Bushmans Baobabs or Liwonde Safari Camp. From the south entrance, it's approximately a 30km drive inside the park to reach Mvuu Camp and Lodge, and only about 3km to Bushmans Baobabs and Liwonde Safari Camp. However, it's important to seek advice before attempting this route. If you don't have your own vehicle, it's best to call ahead and arrange for someone from Bushmans Baobabs or Liwonde Safari Camp to pick you up from the park gate. You can reach the park gate by bicycle taxi. It's crucial to make this arrangement before entering the park, as walking into the park is not permitted, and there may not be transportation options available at the gate. For a unique experience, you can also consider using the MV Mangunda cruise boat based at Villa Liwonde in Liwonde town. This boat offers daily and overnight trips into the park, allowing you to view the park and its animals in a different way. If you prefer a hassle-free experience, you can rely on a local tour operator such as Malawian Style who specializes in trips to Liwonde National Park and other parks in Malawi. They can handle all the administration, including accommodation, transport, and game activities. All you have to do is show up and enjoy the adventure!
