Sant'Angelo Martire is the patron saint of Licata. Twice a year, on May 5th and the first Sunday after August 15th, the city celebrates its Patron's Day. Founded in 282 BC by Finzia, Licata has a rich history. It was established after the destruction of the nearby city of Gela, with many of the inhabitants and public inscriptions being relocated to Licata.
