Leixlip, a charming town located near the confluence of the river Liffey and Rye Water, has a fascinating history that dates back to the 9th century. Its name, "Leixlip," originates from the Old Norse Lax Hlaup or "salmon leap," which refers to a pair of magnificent waterfalls that once graced the area. Unfortunately, these waterfalls are now hidden from view due to the installment of a hydroelectric power station in the 1940s.
