The roots of Koper's name can be traced back to the ancient Roman town of Caprea. Over the years, this charming coastal town has experienced various changes and influences. In 1278, Koper willingly joined forces with the powerful city-state of Venice, leading to the town's renaming as Capo d'Istria.
During its history, Koper passed from the Venetian republic to Austria in 1797 and then to Italy in 1918. However, after World War II, many of Koper's Italian inhabitants fled when the town became part of the Free Territory of Trieste, which was mainly governed and subsequently incorporated into Yugoslavia.
Despite the impact of communism in the form of factories and warehouses to the south, the old town of Koper remains remarkably preserved. This untouched gem attracts visitors who are willing to venture off the beaten path and explore its historical beauty.

The first popular food in Slovenia is Čripnjatia, which translates to 'little pancakes'.
