Get in
Getting to Komodo Island has become easier with the ferry service that runs between the cities of Sape on Sumbawa and Labuanbajo on Flores. Although this service may not be available on all departures, it brings passengers to the island's only village after unloading them onto small vessels. However, as of June 2019, this service may have ceased. The ferries now sail straight to Labuanbajo from Sape without the detour to Komodo Island itself. If you are looking for an alternative, there are local supply boats available from Labuanbajo to Komodo Island. These boats start early in the morning and take about 4 hours to reach the island. Keep in mind that an overnight stay on the island may be compulsory for the return trip. For those traveling from Sape to the west, it's important to note that the once-daily ferries from Sape can be suspended indefinitely due to bad weather. In such cases, flying from Bima airport to Labuanbajo is a safer option. Bima airport offers flights to Denpasar.
