The Everest region, also known as Khumbu, is famous for its breathtaking mountain peaks and the warm hospitality of its inhabitants, the Sherpas. Trekking through this region is a popular choice for tourists visiting Nepal, as there are plenty of opportunities to rest and enjoy a meal along the way. Don't worry about getting lost in the mountains; simply ask a local for directions to the next village on your route, and they will gladly guide you. Most Sherpas under the age of fifty have a good understanding of basic English and can even speak it fluently. The best times to visit the Everest region are from the beginning of March to mid-May and from the beginning of September to the end of November. During the winter, it can be extremely cold with snow making it difficult to travel beyond Tengboche. In the summer, expect heavy rainfall and cloud cover, which may obscure the spectacular peaks. However, visiting in April and early May allows you to witness the vibrant bloom of hedgerows and trees, particularly the colorful Rhododendrons. Before embarking on your trek, make sure to obtain a TIMS (Trekking Information Management System) permit in Kathmandu at the Nepal Tourism Board. The permit costs 20 US dollars and requires a recent passport-sized photo along with a completed form. If you are part of an organized trekking party, your tour operator will handle this process for you. Additionally, a National Park Entry Fee is required, which can be obtained in Kathmandu or at the park's entrance. In the Khumbu region, lodges and restaurants only accept Nepalese rupees. Budget-wise, expect to spend around 1500-2000 rs per person per day for food and accommodation. Prices may increase with altitude, and Namche offers more options but can be pricier. Be sure to budget additional funds if you plan to indulge in beer, soft drinks, or other amenities. Explore the official website of Sagarmatha National Park for more information: [1] [1]
