Welcome to the Everest region (Khumbu), famous for its breathtaking mountain peaks and the warm hospitality of its inhabitants, the Sherpas. It is one of the most popular destinations for tourists in Nepal, offering both challenging treks and restful stopovers. Don't worry about losing your way, as the friendly locals are always happy to guide you to the next village on your route. In fact, most Sherpas under the age of fifty can understand basic English, making communication easier for visitors. While trekking is possible throughout the year in the Everest region, the best times to visit are from March to mid-May and from September to November. The landscapes are adorned with the vibrant colors of blooming rhododendrons in April and early May. However, the clear mountain views are often obstructed by dust from the plains of India during spring. After the summer monsoons, the views improve as the atmosphere clears, but the days become shorter and cooler. To embark on a trek in the Khumbu region, you will need a TIMS (Trekking Information Management System) permit, which can be obtained in Kathmandu at the Nepal Tourism Board. Additionally, a National Park Entry Fee is required, and it can be obtained either in Kathmandu or upon entering the Sagarmatha National Park. In the Khumbu region, lodges and restaurants only accept Nepalese rupees. Budget between 1500-2000 rs per person per day for food and accommodation, with prices increasing at higher altitudes. Keep in mind that additional expenses may arise if you wish to enjoy beer, soft drinks, and other amenities. For more information about Sagarmatha National Park, visit their official website: [1].
