Saddar, once the bustling center of Karachi during the colonial era, retains remnants of its grand past. From 1947 to the 1960s, Saddar served as the hub for federal government offices. Today, these offices have been relocated to the provincial government offices of Sindh. Saddar showcases numerous stunning examples of colonial architecture, including the iconic Karachi Grammar School building, Frere Hall, and the historical Sindh Club. In the year 2000, the federal government implemented local government reforms, leading to the dissolution of the former Karachi Division and the formation of a new Karachi City-District.
