Embark on an incredible adventure along the Jungle Railway, channeling famous explorers like Richard Halliburton, Ernest Hemingway, and Isabella Bird. This iconic railway can be accessed at various points, allowing you to dive into the enchanting jungle landscape. Hop on the train at one of the many stations along the way, or if you prefer a shorter journey, board at any point and experience a portion of the incredible ride. For most people, the journey begins in the north, near Kota Bharu in Kelantan. The Wakaf Bharu station, just 5 km from the city center, serves as the gateway to this thrilling expedition. Make sure to arrange your transportation to the station the night before, as the trains may depart early in the morning. Tumpat, a town just half an hour north of Wakaf Bharu, marks the start of the Jungle Railway. Although there is no accommodation available in Tumpat, it is still a convenient place to catch the 05:00 mail train. If you're coming from southern Thailand, you can travel via Sungai Kolok and Rantau Panjang to reach the nearest station, Pasir Mas. Consider staying in Pasir Mas, where accommodation options may be available. Journey all the way to Gua Musang, a frontier town in Kelantan, which serves as the ending point for two jungle trains. This fascinating location is surrounded by thick forests, offering a truly memorable experience. Gua Musang is easily accessible by road from Kota Bharu and Kuala Lumpur, making it a convenient starting or ending point for your jungle line adventure. Jerantut, located in Pahang, is another popular access point as it is the gateway to Taman Negara National Park. Whether you're taking an express train or traveling by bus or taxi from Kuantan, Jerantut serves as a vital stop on your journey. Kuala Lipis, the starting point of the local trains heading to Tumpat, is an excellent choice for those seeking an exciting trip through the rainforest. This charming city offers affordable accommodation and delicious dining options along its main street. Additionally, its location within the National Park provides a fantastic starting point for rainforest trekking expeditions. As you explore the Jungle Railway, consider accessing the captivating route from Mentakab. Although it is located quite far from the more interesting parts of the railway in northern Pahang and Kelantan, Mentakab connects to Kuala Lumpur and Kuantan, making it a possible access point for your adventure. Finally, Gemas marks the southern end of the Jungle Railway and can be easily accessed by road or by taking the Butterworth-Kuala Lumpur-Singapore railway line. From the western coast, you'll first have to take an ETS train to Gemas, then catch the midnight express train to Tumpat. While the journey up north is quite long, rest assured that the interesting parts in Pahang and Kelantan await you. Don't forget to start your journey in Johor Bahru, the starting point of the sleeper express train to Tumpat. If you're coming from Singapore, you can take the shuttle train or one of the frequent public buses to cross the border to Johor Bahru. Prepare for an unforgettable expedition as you embark on the Jungle Railway and discover the wonders of Malaysia's lush jungles.
