Jageshwar, a Hindu pilgrimage town located in the Almora district of Uttarakhand, is devoted to Lord Shiva. This temple city is a cluster of 124 large and small stone temples, dating back to the 9th to 13th century AD. Preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), these temples include the Dandeshwar Temple, Chandi-ka-Temple, Jageshwar Temple, Kuber Temple, Mritunjaya Temple, Nanda Devi or Nau Durga, Nava-grah temple, a Pyramidal shrine, and Surya Temple. Among them, the oldest shrine is the 'Mrityunjaya Temple' and the largest shrine is the 'Dandeshwar Temple'. Nestled in the Jataganga river valley, Jageshwar is surrounded by a Deodar forest, with two streams, Nandini and Surabhi, flowing through the narrow valley. This sacred spot, once the center of Lakulish Shaivism, stands at an altitude of 1870 m.
