Ierapetra, known as "the bride of the Libyan sea," is a remarkable town located in the southernmost part of Europe, facing the African coast. What sets Ierapetra apart is its extraordinary weather, boasting an almost rainless climate and consistent temperatures that rarely dip below 12 C throughout the year. With such exceptional conditions, it's no wonder that Ierapetra has secured its place as the sunniest holiday resort in Europe! If you plan on flying to Ierapetra, most people opt to land in Heraklion, a well-connected airport with flights from all over Europe and frequent daily flights to Athens. Alternatively, there is also the Sita airport, which is closer but only serviced by a few airlines. Once you arrive at either airport, the most convenient way to reach Ierapetra is by taking the regional bus KTEL. The bus schedule can be checked [here](https://rethymnon.com/TheBus-Bus-Service-Crete/timetabledet.php?line=13&lg=2). All the buses from Heraklion pass by the airport. The journey to Ierapetra takes approximately 2-2.5 hours and costs 12 Euros per person. If you prefer a faster option, you can take a taxi from the airport to Heraklion, but it will cost around 110 Euros and take 1.5 hours. For those who prefer traveling by ferry, the closest port to Ierapetra is Heraklion. Ferries from Piraeus arrive every morning around 6:30. The transportation options from the port are similar to those from the airport, offering convenient connections to Ierapetra.
