Let's take a journey back in time to the days of yore, where a fearless leader named Marcos Canul led a band of Maya Indians across the mighty Rio Hondo River. Their aim? To stand up against the oppressive West India Regiment, brought in by the British to exploit the land and its valuable logs, including Loguood and Mahogany. These brave Maya Indians, sometimes compensated for their land, grew tired of broken promises and took matters into their own hands. Marcos Canul and his warriors struck fear into the hearts of the British by launching daring attacks, even reducing Corozal Town and Orange Walk Town to ashes. While the fearless leader met his untimely demise during a raid on Orange Walk Town, his legacy lived on. Today, many of the inhabitants of Orange Walk District proudly trace their roots back to these courageous Maya Indians. Their village, known as Icaiche, once stood where the State of Quintana Roo now thrives. Join us on this thrilling historical adventure!
