Get in
Trujillo is the main hub for long-distance buses, including those heading to Huanchaco. To get to Huanchaco, you can hop on one of the red and yellow buses labeled "Huanchaco" and wave them down anywhere. There are four different routes to choose from: A, B, C, and H. However, it's important to note that there are combis with the same letters that go to other destinations, so be sure to look for the ones specifically going to Huanchaco. In Trujillo, there is a modern Terrapuerto that opened in 2015, serving as the departure and arrival point for many bus lines. It is located in an industrial area to the south of Ovalo Grau, which may not be the most convenient location. If you're using public transportation to reach Huanchaco, take a combi from the road outside the terminal to Ovalo Grau or Mayorista, and ask the attendant where to get off and catch a Huanchaco combi. Alternatively, you can take a taxi, which costs S/. 20 during the day or S/. 22 at night, as indicated on a sign in front of the terminal. However, you can try negotiating a better fare by walking out to the road or using the "Easy taxi" app. It's worth mentioning that taxi drivers tend to persuade tourists to choose Huanchaco as their destination, as they see it as an opportunity to overcharge passengers. Therefore, be cautious when dealing with taxi drivers at the Trujillo bus terminals. For surfers, there are buses that depart from Trujillo's Santa Cruz terminal to Puerto Malabrigo (Chicama) every 2 hours. 'Transportes Linea' [1] offers the most frequent buses to Pacasmayo, while 'Ormeo' [2] and other companies near Ormeo are the most frequent options for traveling to Mancora. The airport is situated between Trujillo and Huanchaco, closer to Huanchaco. Huanchaco itself is located just outside of Trujillo, around 560km north of Lima. If you're flying into Lima, there are two options to reach Trujillo: a one-hour flight to Trujillo airport, which costs approximately US$80, or an eight-hour bus ride with fares ranging from US$7 to US$27.
