Get in
Arriving in Laos is an exhilarating experience. The Lao immigration office, located 10 km south of town, is where you will go to obtain your 30-day Visas-on-Arrival. These visas are available at a cost of approximately 35 USD, although prices may vary depending on your nationality. Don't worry if you don't have a passport-sized photo—there are options to get one in Chiang Khong, Thailand, or near the bus station in Chiang Rai. It's important to note that there are a few extra fees to be aware of when obtaining your visa. If you arrive on a weekend, there is a $1 "weekend-fee." Additionally, on weekdays after 16:00 pm, there is an "overtime fee" of $1. Although these fees may seem insignificant, they are still worth mentioning. However, it's always possible to avoid these fees by negotiating with the officials or swiftly exiting the premises after receiving your stamp. Ultimately, it's just an extra dollar to ensure your smooth entry into Laos. Once you pay for your visa, you can expect a brief wait of approximately 15 minutes while your visa is being printed and attached to your passport. While this may seem like a minor inconvenience, it's a small price to pay for the incredible experiences that await you in Laos.
