Heusden was once an independent municipality, encompassing the communities of Herpt, Heesbeen, Hedikhuizen, Doeveren, and Oudheusden. In 1997, Heusden merged with the municipalities of Vlijmen and Drunen to form a new municipality, which was named Heusden.
