Understand
Graubnden, also known as Grischun in Romansch and Grigioni in Italian, is a majestic mountainous canton dominated by the breathtaking Engadine and Rhein valleys. However, hidden within these valleys are numerous side valleys that offer secluded and exquisite beauty. It is the watershed of Europe, with rivers flowing to the Mediterranean, North, and Black seas. Graubnden is also home to Switzerland's only National Park, a spectacular landscape dotted with charming villages and a unique Romansch culture. The capital city, Chur, with its origins dating back to Roman times (Latin: Curia), is a hidden gem. Its quaint old quarter boasts cobblestone streets and beautifully painted shutters. Despite its modesty, Graubnden offers some of the world's best outdoor sports, ancient mountain towns, breathtaking panoramas, and a distinct culture. It remains relatively unknown to outsiders, keeping its delightful treasures largely undiscovered.
