Gangnam, a vibrant district in its own right, can even be divided into two distinct areas: Apgujeongdong and Cheongdamdong in the north, and Gangnam/Tehranro/Samseongdong in the south. Apgujeongdong and Cheongdamdong, located near the Han River, proudly hold the title of the most affluent neighborhoods in all of Korea. These districts are characterized by fancy coffee shops, designer handbags, luxurious cars like Mercedes and Porsches, high-end department stores, and rows upon rows of high-fashion boutiques. It comes as no surprise that numerous Korean movie stars and singers have chosen to make their home in this area, often spotted enjoying delicious Patbingsu or flaunting their new sunglasses. Although there is a bustling nightlife scene here, it maintains a relaxed atmosphere compared to the liveliness of Hongdae/Sinchon. The majority of venues cater to upper-class Korean teenagers and young adults. Surprisingly, the apartment complexes in this neighborhood blend right in with the rest of the city, and they even appear older and more run-down. This can be attributed to the fact that the elite residents vehemently oppose renovations and expansions, fearing a surge of new inhabitants that would decrease property values and create overcrowding. In stark contrast, Tehranro stretches as a long thoroughfare adorned with modern skyscrapers on both sides. Often referred to as "Tehranro Valley" in reference to Silicon Valley, this area hosts many of Korea's leading tech companies, such as Naver and Samsung. Samseong Station marks the eastern end of Tehranro, housing notable landmarks like COEX and Bongeun Temple. In the center lies Seolleung Station, featuring a park with ancient royal tombs. Finally, on the western end, you will find Gangnam Station, the country's busiest subway station. Upon exiting the station, you are greeted by Gangnamro, a futuristic avenue bursting with contemporary skyscrapers, upscale shopping (though not quite as luxurious as Apgujeongdong), charming cafes, vibrant bars, enticing restaurants, gigantic television screens, vivid neon advertisements, and throngs of pedestrians relishing the energetic ambiance. Despite being often overlooked by tourists and the Seoul Government as a tourist attraction, Gangnamro truly epitomizes the modern, high-tech country that Korea has evolved into over the past six decades. Don't miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in this spectacular district!
