Understand
Fraser's Hill, named after the adventurous Scotsman Louis James Fraser, holds within it a fascinating history. Once a thriving gold prospector in Australia, Fraser stumbled upon the valley that would later bear his name. Instead of gold, he found tin and cleverly employed Chinese miners to extract it. But Fraser's ambitions didn't end there - he decided to increase his profits by setting up opium and gambling dens. However, his success was short-lived as he mysteriously disappeared, leaving behind a trail of intrigue and speculation. Though the tin industry faded away in 1913, the lush valley was rediscovered as a colonial hill resort. Thanks to its elevated location, Fraser's Hill enjoys cooler temperatures than bustling Kuala Lumpur. The journey to this hidden retreat involves a breathtaking road cut through the mountains, offering stunning views along the way. Today, Fraser's Hill maintains its unique character, where traditional English cottages coexist with a golf course and the sound of the call to prayer from a nearby mosque. It's a wonderfully eccentric place, where you can enjoy mouthwatering curries served on banana leaves amidst a picturesque landscape. Step into Fraser's Hill and experience a fusion of cultures that will leave you captivated.
