Evergreen Park, a village located southwest of Chicago, has a rich history dating back over a century. In 1893, with a population of about 500 people, Evergreen Park decided to declare its independence and incorporated as a village. The original settlers were hard-working farm families who paved the way for the village's progress and growth. The village got its name from a park located at 97th Street and Homan Avenue, which was initially intended to be the center of town. The park was designed in the shape of a wagon wheel, resembling Paris. However, as development occurred in other directions, the center of Evergreen Park shifted to 95th Street and Kedzie Avenue. Today, Evergreen Park is a thriving residential suburb, known for its vibrant community and numerous churches. Celebrations were held for the village's 75th and 100th anniversaries in 1968 and 1993, respectively. Time capsules were buried at each ceremony, scheduled to be opened in 2018. Evergreen Park covers approximately four square miles and is surrounded by the City of Chicago on three sides and the Village of Oak Lawn on the west. It is conveniently located along 95th Street (U.S. Route 12 and U.S. Route 20) near the attractive Beverly Hills section of Chicago. Evergreen Park continues to flourish, offering its residents and visitors a warm and welcoming community to call home.
