Introducing the Orient-Express! Well, not exactly the famous train, but the Oriente special route that runs from Valladolid to Ek Balam on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Departing at 8:30 and returning at 12:00, this is a convenient and affordable choice. Just hop on board and enjoy the ride for only 88 MXN roundtrip (as of March 2019). Although, fair warning, sometimes these trips get canceled if there aren't enough passengers, so keep an eye out for any changes. But wait, there's more! If the Orient-Express isn't available, fear not. You can always opt for a car, taxi, or collectivo taxi. Collectivos, which are vans or regular taxis, allow multiple people to travel together, making it a budget-friendly option. They pick up passengers on Calle 37 between Calle 42 and 44. The cost per person is just 50 pesos, or you can split the fare with your group and pay 200 pesos for a taxi. Pro tip: if you're feeling adventurous, try bargaining the price down if you're traveling with two or more individuals. Now, here's the exciting part. When it's time to leave Ek Balam, head to the shaded waiting area outside the entrance. There, you'll have a choice to make. Do you want to wait for more adventurous souls and travel back via collectivo, or do you prefer the convenience of a private taxi? If time is of the essence, you can pay the full taxi price and leave immediately. Just a heads up, the taxi drivers might try to slightly overcharge on the ride back, but you can negotiate or wait for a more reasonable offer. They are unable to wait around all day, after all!
