Located on the mesmerizing east coast of South Africa, East London is home to the region's only deep water river harbor. Part of the Buffalo City Local Municipality, which also encompasses Bhisho, King William's Town, and the vibrant townships of Mdantsane and Zwelitsha, East London is filled with both natural beauty and urban charm. While the town has an official new name, most people still refer to it as East London. Similarly, the East London Airport, identified by its historical code ELS, is set to undergo a name change in the future. In 1938, the curator of the town museum stumbled upon a remarkable discovery. A local fishing vessel had captured an extraordinary fish, later identified as a prehistoric Coelacanth, a species long believed to be extinct. This fascinating find sheds light on the biodiversity of the area and continues to intrigue scientists and visitors alike.
