Located at Discovery Quay on Riverside by the RRS Discovery, the Dundee Tourist Information & Orientation Centre in Dundee, Scotland is the perfect starting point for your exploration. Dundee is conveniently situated relative to other Scottish cities, including being just 30 minutes east of Perth, 1 hour and 15 minutes south of Aberdeen, 1 hour and 30 minutes north of Edinburgh, and 2 hours northeast of Glasgow. Dundee has a rich historical background and is well-known for the three J's: jute, jam, and journalism. In the past, jute from the Indian Sub-Continent would arrive in Dundee by boat to be processed in the city's numerous jute mills. Although the last textile factory closed down in 2001, many of these historic buildings have been transformed into modern apartments and offices. Dundee is also famous for its delicious jam, particularly its original home of Marmalade. The farms surrounding Dundee used to grow berries, which were used to make the city's famous jam. Additionally, the Keillor Sweet Factory was renowned for its sweets, although it is no longer in operation. Lastly, Dundee is home to the beloved Dandy and Beano comics, which are published by D C Thomson. The friendly people of Dundee, known as Dundonians, welcome outsiders with open arms. The city also boasts a high student population, making it a vibrant and lively destination to explore.
