In 1794, it was declared a healing area by the Grand Duke of Lithuania and King of Poland, Stanislaw August Poniatowski. The establishment of the Druskininkai resort was later approved by Emperor Nicholas I of Russia, thanks to the groundbreaking research on mineral water conducted by Professor Ignatius Fonberg in 1837.

During the 19th and early 20th centuries, Druskininkai experienced a golden age of prosperity. It became not only a destination for healing treatments using unique resources like cheese springs, mud, and kumys, but also a hub for entertainment. Concerts, theatre performances, and dance shows animated the town. The popular Sun, Air, and Exercising Procedure treatment facility park was a favorite gathering spot between 1924 and 1939.
