Get in
For a thrilling shore dive experience, head to the Oudekraal parking lot in Table Mountain National Park. This location offers excellent facilities, including clean toilets, picnic areas, shade trees, and showers. Convenient parking is available, and security measures are in place for your safety. Alternatively, you can park at the side of the M6, although it requires a longer walk to the dive site. Down the stairs at the west end of the parking lot, across the grassy area, lies the entry point to the stunning westerly cove. The initial climb over the rocks may be challenging, especially when the tide is high. However, the rewards are worth it as the entry area is well-protected by reefs and abundant kelp. Make sure to have a reasonable level of fitness for the descent, but don't worry about staying cool, as there is fresh water available at the top of the stairs. In the photo provided, you can see the entry area during low tide. Swimming through the kelp requires some effort in these conditions. However, during high tide, the kelp is submerged, making it easier to navigate. For an alternative diving experience, consider a boat dive to Coral Gardens. The boat trip from Hout Bay Harbour or Oceana Power Boat Club covers a distance of approximately 14km. This option is ideal for those who prefer not to access the dive site from the shore. It is important to note that Coral Gardens is not suitable for anchoring, as it may damage the delicate coral. Therefore, a live-boat dive is necessary. Reference points, such as the high rock group and beacon on top of the point, can guide you to the site. In case the kelp on the pinnacles is not visible from the boat, utilize a GPS or compass bearings as outlined in the "Routes" section to ensure you reach the spot accurately.
