Understand
Datong, a small city with limited exposure to foreigners, offers a unique experience for travelers. The locals are friendly and inquisitive, often capturing the attention of visitors. A great way to enjoy some leisure time is by stopping at a chuanr stand near Red Flag Square, immersing oneself in the local culture and striking up conversations with the residents. While Datong itself may not have many prominent attractions due to ongoing construction, it serves as an excellent starting point for exploring the surrounding areas. As of Summer 2016, the city is still undergoing significant development, particularly within the newly constructed city wall.
