Understand
Darkhan is a bustling city in Mongolia, known as the "blacksmith" city. With a population of 180,738 in 2010, it is the second largest city in the country and serves as the capital of Darkhan-Uul Aimag (Darkhan-Uul Province). In 1961, Darkhan was brought to life with generous support from the Soviet Union. Originally designed as a manufacturing hub for Mongolia's northern region, the city has evolved into a thriving industrial center. Today, it houses a remarkable 82% of Darkhan-Uul Province's residents. The cityscape primarily consists of residential apartments, providing homes for about 86% of Darkhan's population. However, on the outskirts, you can still catch a glimpse of traditional Mongolian yurts (gers) dotting the landscape, where the remaining residents reside.
