Dashoguz, an ancient stop along the legendary route known as the Silk Road, holds the intriguing meaning of "stone spring" due to its historically significant natural spring. In the 19th century, a Russian fortress named Tashauz was established here, birthing the foundations of this remarkable city. The majority of the city's architecture emerged during the era of Soviet rule, evident in the dominance of squat apartment buildings that gracefully adorn the downtown skyline, a captivating contrast to Ashgabat. After gaining independence, Dashoguz underwent a name change to Dashkhovuz, and later, Daoguz.
