Crestone, founded in 1880, holds a fascinating history. It emerged as the local center, replacing the mining camp of Teton. The town was established by George Adams, the owner of the ranch, on two homesteads located north of the Baca Grant. In a fascinating twist, all the houses in Teton were relocated to Crestone. Although the initial sales of lots were slow, a significant portion remained under the ownership of the Baca Grant.
