Traveling to Copán Ruinas To reach Copán Ruinas, there are convenient direct buses available from various locations: From San Pedro Sula and Guatemala: You can catch direct buses from San Pedro Sula and Guatemala City. The bus from San Pedro Sula will drop you off just a short walk away from the center of Copán Ruinas. Avoid overpriced tuk-tuks or taxis, as the bus stop is within walking distance. Other parts of Honduras: If you are coming from other parts of Honduras, there are regular shuttle buses available from La Entrada, a regional transport hub. Look for buses that pass through La Entrada from cities like San José, San Pedro Sula, and Nueva Ocotepeque. Casassola Express buses: Casassola Express offers regular buses from San Pedro Sula and Santa Rosa Copán. The buses from San Pedro Sula depart at 8:00, 11:00, 14:00, and 15:00. The cost is L160 from San Pedro Sula to Copán. There are also 3-4 services from Santa Rosa Copán. Hedman Alas: Another option is to use Hedman Alas, which offers services to Copán Ruinas from San Pedro Sula, with connections to/from Tegucigalpa, La Ceiba, and other places. If you go to the San Pedro Sula bus station, you will likely find a bus leaving soon. Hedman Alas is a bit pricier, but you can make a reservation in advance. The cost is $20 USD each way between San Pedro Sula and Copán. However, note that the Hedman Alas station in Copán is a bit farther from the town center compared to Casassola Express. From Guatemala: If you are coming from Antigua, Guatemala, there are daily shuttles available throughout the day. The travel time is around six hours. Tickets for this shuttle can be purchased from travel agents in Antigua, and prices range from $20 to $30. Public transportation from Guatemala City: It is also possible to take public transportation from Guatemala City. Take a taxi or Uber to Centra-Norte bus station. Several bus lines depart from Centra-Norte to Chiquimula. Litegua and Rutas Orientales are two options. Expect to pay between 40 and 90 quetzals. From Chiquimula, take a smaller microbus to El Florido. The microbuses are green and offered by Litegua. Once you cross the border, you can take another microbus to Copán Ruinas for 20 Lempiras. Although it may sound complicated, it is relatively simple, and you can even ask other tourists for directions. From Tikal: If you are at Tikal, you can also use public transportation. Private transport from Guatemala's Capital: Another option is to use private transport by taking the road CA2 from Guatemala City. From El Salvador: If you are in El Salvador, there are several options for reaching Copán Ruinas: - Take bus 119 from San Salvador's Terminal de Oriente to the border at El Poy. It takes around 4 hours. From the border, you can take a taxi or shared taxi to Nueva Ocotepeque, and then transfer to a bus heading for San José or San Pedro Sula. Get off at La Entrada, where you can find a minibus to Copán Ruinas. - There used to be a direct shuttle service, but it is no longer available as of March 2016.
