Chichester, a city steeped in history, has witnessed occupation since ancient times, even before the Roman invasion of Britain. It is believed to have served as one of the key bridgeheads for the Romans. The city's center is built upon the Roman town of Noviomagus, which boasts a strategic cross-shaped design favored by the Romans. Four main streets, North Street, South Street, East Street, and West Street, converge at the majestic Chichester Cross, a medieval market cross. Chichester is renowned for its annual Chichester Festivities and the Chichester Real Ale and Jazz Festival, a delightful celebration of music and delicious beverages. To the north of the city lies the picturesque South Downs National Park, characterized by its chalky escarpments. Dominating the landscape is the famous Goodwood Racecourse. On the southern side lies the Manhood Peninsula, a captivating region with three magnificent harbors. Sandy and shingly beaches invite relaxation, while the towns of Selsey, Bracklesham, East and West Wittering, Birdham, and Sidlesham each possess their own distinct charm, boasting character-filled pubs, attractions, and shops. The town becomes especially vibrant during the summer months when caravan parks and holiday lets attract a swelling population of visitors. Heading westward, one encounters the delightful towns of Emsworth and Havant, situated on the border with Hampshire. To the east lies the lively coastal destination of Bognor Regis.
