If you're traveling to Chiayi, you have a few options for getting there. The HSR Chiayi (Taibao) station is conveniently located on the high-speed line between Taipei and Kaohsiung. The journey from Taipei takes about 1.5 hours and costs $1080. The station is located 15 km outside of town, but don't worry, there's a reliable transportation system called the Chiayi BRT that will take you from the HSR station to the city.
Chiayi is also well-connected by train. The mainline TRA trains and the scenic narrow-gauge Alishan Forest Railway depart from the same station, although they have separate ticketing counters. If you're interested in exploring the beautiful Alishan area, this is your starting point. Additionally, if you want to visit the nearby hot spring town of Guanzihling, you can take local buses from the Zhongshan Rd bus terminal, which is just a few hundred meters down the street from the station.
