Understand
Cervia, originally known as Ficocle, was a fortified medieval city located in the Salina. Destroyed in 709, it was later rebuilt in a safer location and became part of the Papal States. The name changed to Cervia, referring to the abundance of salt in the local evaporation pods. Under the rule of Pope Innocent XII, the city was rebuilt with huge silos for salt storage. Nowadays, Cervia is a popular resort for German tourists. While English is not widely spoken, locals appreciate visitors attempting to learn the language.
