Canggu proper offers a popular tourist beach just 20 minutes north of Seminyak. Positioned halfway towards Tanah Lot, it forms part of a beautiful coastal stretch spanning approximately 8 km. This stretch encompasses various beaches, including Batu Bolong Beach, Echo Beach, Nelayan Beach, Pererenan Beach, Selasih Beach, Seseh Beach, and Mengening Beach. Formerly a predominantly rural area away from the beaches, Canggu has experienced rapid development and is now a bustling suburb of Denpasar. Nelayan Beach, also known as Fisherman Beach, is the place to go for fresh fish, lobsters, prawns, and more every early morning. It is conveniently located just a five-minute walk between Berawa Beach and Batu Bolong Beach. These beaches offer dark grey or black sand and are not typically sought after by tourists for swimming and sunbathing. However, they are renowned for their challenging surfing spots. Despite the popularity of the area among surfers, the breaks are inviting, the water is clean, and the beaches are comparatively less littered with plastic compared to Kuta and Seminyak. If you prefer quieter beaches, heading northwest of Pererenan Beach is recommended. The expatriate population finds Canggu particularly attractive, leading many overseas nationals to choose this area as their home. Numerous villas owned by foreigners can be found here. Although some parts of Canggu still retain gently rolling terrain with rice paddies, it truly captures the essence of south central Bali.
