While tour operators can assist with reservations, payment is only made upon arrival. A Bwindi expedition without a permit is futile, as entry will be denied. If you choose to depart from Kampala, an ideal option is the daily Post Bus that will transport you to Kabale in approximately 8 hours. From there, you can arrange private transportation. Be sure to allocate an additional day for travel, departing early in the morning. Begin by securing transportation to Butogota, and from there proceed to Buhoma, where various hotels just a short walk away from the starting point of the UWA gorilla tracking are available. Alternatively, departing from Kabale offers several options. Numerous tour companies organize trips to Bwindi, or you have the option to hire a private taxi. Kabale, a bustling city, provides a range of services, ATMs, and accommodations. For those starting their journey from the tranquil town of Kisoro, a private car hire is an excellent option. The cost of hiring a car is $80, and the journey to Bwindi takes approximately 1.5-2 hours. Additionally, a few tour companies in Kisoro provide an alternative mode of transportation. This smaller town exudes a peaceful atmosphere and offers affordable guest houses. Moreover, Kisoro serves as a fantastic launching pad for exploring Mgahinga.
