In 1995, portions of the Jervis Bay National Park were designated to the Aboriginal peoples, leading to the creation of the Booderee National Park and Booderee Botanic Gardens. Please note that Budderoo National Park in NSW is separate and should not be confused with Booderee National Park. Covering 403 hectares of the southern headland shaping Jervis Bay, the park is jointly managed by the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community and the Commonwealth, under the central government rather than the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. The Booderee Botanic Gardens, formerly known as the Jervis Bay Botanical Gardens, are a delightful and relatively small area within the park. The park envelops the town of Jervis Bay and HMAS Creswell, a Navy base under the Department of Defence, with some parts of the granted land being reserved for Aboriginal Community use. While Bowen Island lies within the park's boundaries, public access to it is restricted. For park management inquiries, contact Village Road, Jervis Bay 2540, or call 4442-1006 (fax: 4442 1063). The Visitors Center, located along Village Road, Jervis Bay JBT 2540, can be reached at 4443-0977 (fax: 4443 8302, email: <>).
