At the heart of Bodh Gaya lies the magnificent Mahabodhi temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you will find the renowned Mahabodhi temple/stupa, which stands as a direct descendant of the Bodhi Tree, where the Buddha attained enlightenment. Immerse yourself in the tranquil surroundings as you explore the Lotus Pond and the meditation garden within the temple complex. Bodh Gaya also boasts temples and monasteries from various Buddhist traditions, including Bhutan, Bangladesh, China, Japan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Tibet. All of these cultural treasures are conveniently located within walking distance from the Mahabodhi temple. Please note that mobile phones are not permitted inside the sacred grounds of the Mahabodhi Temple. In order to ensure security, bags may be inspected thoroughly for phones. However, cameras are allowed, and you can obtain a camera ticket for INR 100 rupees. For those who prefer to document their journey with a video camera, video camera tickets are available for INR 500. Remember to respect the traditions and customs of the temple complex by removing your shoes before entering. At the entrance, you will join a collection of hundreds of shoes left by other visitors. Alternatively, you may choose to wear heavy socks for comfort during your visit.
