Understand
Bingen, located on the northern banks of the Nahe River, holds the distinction of being the home of Saint Hildegard von Bingen, one of the most extraordinary women in history. She founded her cloister here, dedicating it to the holy Rupertus. Saint Hildegard was not only a Benedictine nun but also a scholar, artist, and composer. Her comprehensive work "Physica" included over 250 plants, along with a myriad of folk remedies and natural medicinal treatments. Her influence during the Middle Ages was so significant that, had she been a man, she would have rivaled the Pope himself. Today, you can even purchase CDs of her music at your local music store.
