Although the exact date of the town charter is unknown, historical records show that the town received its charter during the 13th or 14th century. Throughout the centuries, Bielsko-Biala was a significant part of the Duchy of Cieszyn and witnessed the shifting borders between Silesia and Little Poland. Over time, Bielsko-Biala went through various political changes. From being annexed by Austria in 1772 to becoming part of reborn Poland in 1918, the city has endured turbulent times. During World War II, it fell under the control of the Third Reich, and its Jewish population was tragically sent to Auschwitz Nazi German concentration camp. However, after liberation, Bielsko-Biala emerged stronger, and in 1951, the adjacent cities of Bielsko and Biaa unified to form the remarkable city we know today.
