Understand
The necropolis of Beni Hasan boasts a total of 39 tombs, most of which date back to the Middle Kingdom's 11th and 12th Dynasties. While only 12 of these tombs are decorated, many were left unfinished. The most exceptional examples belong to the local "nomarchs," who served as governors of the 16th Upper Egyptian "Oryx" nome.
